BRONCO MESSAGE FROM COACH ANDY - 29/6/09 We have been asked to play a friendly next Saturday vs London Mets away at their ground in Finsbury Park. This will be a great opportunity to play a full-length game and will be a real challenge for our team, which I think we are now ready for. Mets are a team from the BBF (British Baseball Federation) league and are good friends of ours. Our Pony team are playing there on the same day. We plan to play a double-header, DH for short (2 games), so timings are; 0915 assemble at Westmorland Park, 0930 leave WP, 1100 arrive at Finsbury Park; pre-game warm-up. 1200 start game 1, 1400 approx. end game 1, 1430 start game 2, 1630 approx. end game 2, 1800 arrive Bracknell. Since it does not make sense to take a large number of players, I will make a team selection once I have responses back. In the past, when we have travelled, we have shared cars and petrol costs. All parents are of course welcome to come along and sit in the sun with a picnic and the paper (tough life....) For those who come along, I will give you more details on exact location (N4 1EQ), parking etc. nearer the time. If you are unable to come along for the whole day and wish to only play in 1 game, that is fine, just let me know. Please let me know asap if you are available! I will come back to you with confirmation of selection as soon as I have a suitable number of replies. |

ABUA-GB announces umpire clinic at London Tournament on July 11th - 30/6/09 ABUA-GB is pleased to announce that it will be conducting a beginners/team umpire clinic before play begins on the first day of the London Tournament. Everyone is welcome to this free training session, scheduled to take place from 8:00 am to 9:00am on Saturday, July 11 at the London Tournament venue in Croydon (click this link for directions). The clinic will focus mainly on practical drills and basic mechanics, making it perfect for players and team umpires and also an excellent start for anyone interested in getting involved with umpiring on any level. No previous experience is required and attendees will get the rare chance to put their new-found skills to practise by umpiring actual tournament games, mentored by ABUA-GB's Instructors and international umpire crews, throughout the London Tournament weekend. |

ROUND-UP - 29/6/09 Blazers dropped both games at Herts on 21st, not giving Mike Trask and Matt Maitland enough run support in game one and making defensive errors in game two to see a 5-1 lead slip and hurt Maitland and Henry Collins on the hill. They return to the fray after a week off, visiting Richmond for two on Sunday. BIIs continue to steamroll through their single A opposition. They beat Guildford 14-8, a close game this season, two weeks ago but bounced back to their first shut out of the season, 27-0 against Richmond; Adam Huxley's solo shot the offensive highlight. With a 9-0 record they have qualified for the playoffs. Only the Old Timers, currently only 2-2, go on a 8-0 tear they could top BIIs win-loss record if they don't pick up another win. A third game against Southampton, away, is slated for Sunday. Tornadoes won two against London on the 21st behind the pitching of Leo Nogami, Amy Trask, Connor Vernon, Kant Nogami and Brendan Hassan, making his debut on the mound. In game one the bottom of the order, Andrew Kennewell, James Boyd and Aaron Copper, batted in 10 runs in a 15-8 win and in game two it was the top of the order, Vernon, the Nogamis, Boyd and Yusuke Amano who contributed 13 rbi's in the 19-2 victory. After a week off Tornadoes make a quick return to playing London, this time in Finsbury Park, on Saturday. Bronco League saw Astros and Broncos split the two games they've played recently, both by a 6-2 scoreline. |

ROUND-UP - 14/6/09 All three of Bracknell's travel teams now have seven wins and all three top their divisions! Tornadoes dropped the first loss of the season in game one against Horsham. Damian Van Niekerk whacked two triples and Leo Nogami stroked two doubles but the Tornadoes dropped game one 7-14 as Zack Chambers turned in a great pitching performance for the second week in a row. Bracknell bounced back to claim the win in game two as Connor Vernon scattered five hits over five innings work. Nogami added two more doubles and a single while Yusuke Amano capped an impressive debut with a triple and Van Niekerk hit his third triple of the day. Tornadoes host London Mets for the first time this season this coming Saturday; first pitch at noon. Blazers II continue to crush everything in their path. This time the hapless victims were Southampton, BII ran in 52 runs to get somewhere close to a record 64 runs scored by the 1993 Blazers against Fulham. Next game up is Guildford at home Sunday; 2pm start. Blazers picked up two wins over Croydon. The first was by a forfeit as Croydon did not have nine players to start game one despite the league allowed 30 minutes delay. A topsy-turvy game two finished in a 5-4 win for Bracknell after Croydon had scored three in the third. Ryan Trask's two run shot tied the game but although Croydon's home run took them back into the lead Blazers' character helped them score two sixth inning runs and hold Croydon scoreless in the seventh to clinch the win. Blazers share top spot on the NBL with the Mets who swept beat Herts, Blazers next opponents, in Hemel next Sunday. |

MESSAGE FROM COACH ANDY RE BRONCO LEAGUE SATURDAY - 16/6/09 I want to let you know that we plan to have a picnic lunch at the ballpark this Saturday 20/06. The Ponys (U16) are playing at home (they are 7-1 at the moment, going very well!!) and I’d like to take the opportunity to (a) get the Bronco players to watch and see what the Pony game is like, so as to see what is in store at the next age level, (b) support the Ponys and (c) have something of a social gathering. The plan is that we will start training a little earlier than before because we need to move off the diamond by 1100 to allow the Ponys to prepare for their game. In fact, at this point, I’d like to ask you all to make efforts to come along to the start of the session in good time. We seem to have a growing number of stragglers and sadly this just eats into their game-time. After our session, Coaches will stay and eat their picnic lunch whilst watching the Pony game. Coaches will stay until 1330 only; after 1330 your child will need to be collected from us as normal. You are of course welcome to stay and watch more of the game. If you wish for your child to stay, you need to notify the Coach in advance on the day. If you are not on our “picnic list” we’ll expect you to come along and collect them! Whilst they stay for the picnic, they are expected to eat their lunch and watch the game; they will not be allowed to do anything else. You can of course collect your child before 1330, but let us know when you collect them. You should bring your own picnic and dress according to weather; please be sure to apply sun cream! In order to get the game started and finished by 1100, we would like to start at 0930 so if you can be at the ballpark by 0915 to help set up field; adults are welcome to help too – the more the Coaches can coach, the more input your child will get. Once we finish the game, we will move off the diamond and run some drills for 45 mins on the lower field; we will then stop and watch the Ponys in their pre-game warm-up. Our picnic will start at 1200. Starting this weekend, we will create the teams and try our best to keep them together in the teams week-to-week. We hope this will build teamwork within a unit that won’t change too much; I’ll keep you posted on t-shirts and caps – as soon as we have them, you’ll have them. I do also have some items for sale; a bat and gloves. If any of you have 2nd hand items (baseball related only!) you’d like to offer for sale, please let me know. If any of you know someone who is not getting this e-mail, please pass it on! |

ROUND-UP - 7/6/09 Tornadoes and Blazers II both kept their unbeaten records this weekend, both went to 6-0 and both sit top of their respective divisions. Tornadoes swept Brentwood (now 0-6), winning 13-6 and 13-5. Damian Van Niekerk, Leo Nogami and Amy Trask combined for five no hit innings in game one. 4 no-hit innings from Connor Vernon helped to secure game 2. Andrew Kennewell went 6 for 8 with 4 rbi. Tornadoes sit clear top of the Pony Division as London lost to Bracknell's next opponents Horsham (1-5). Hugh's pictures can be seen here. Blazers II pounded out 13 runs in the first inning against Braintree (now 3-3) on Sunday to effectively end the contest after an inning. Shane Wagner threw four strong no-hit innings, picking up 6 strike-outs, in his first outing of the season. Leigh Coke went 5-5 with 6 rbi and a three run shot, Jason Coke was 6-7 with 7 rbi and Ed Wilmott 4-5 with 7 rbi. The game was called at the end of the sixth because of rain with the score standing at 38-2. Blazers II retain the only unbeaten single A record and are the only single A team to have lost less than two games. Next game for BII is at Pool A rivals Southampton Mustangs (3-2) on Sunday. Blazers next NBL fixture sees them host Croydon (0-8) on Sunday looking for a sweep that might take them clear at the top of the NBL. |

|
ROUND-UP - 31/5/09 Connor Vernon threw a complete game no-hitter to earn the win in an 11-1 victory in game one of Tornadoes home double header against Horsham on Saturday. Vernon struck out 10 and gave up one unearned run as his side gave him plenty of run support. Vernon helped himself out with a double and a triple with three rbi, Damian Van Niekerk smashed two doubles and six hitters weighed in with rbi's. Van Niekerk took the win in game two after four innings of work which were supported by Amy Trask's two innings in relief. Again Bracknell's offense scored almost at will. Van Niekerk helped himself out with a 4-4 game with 2 doubles and 4 runs. James Boyd went 3-3 and Andrew Kennewell brought home five runs with a double and two sacrifice flies. Sam Jones brought in four runs. Aaron Cooper, Trask and Bernard Scheuerman each reached three times out of four, either by drawing walks or getting hit by pitches. The unbeaten Tornadoes travel to Brentwood with a 4-0 record for a double header next Saturday. Blazers II, protecting a 5-0 record, host Braintree, with a respectable 3-1 record, in a 2pm game on Sunday. |

CLUBMARK ACCREDITATION - 8/12/08 All During 2009, Bracknell Baseball Club will endeavour to achieve Clubmark accreditation. If you go to www.clubmark.org.uk you can find out all about this, and if you want to know more, please contact President Mark Salter who will take the lead on this. Mark is looking for volunteers to assist with any work that needs to be done in order to achieve accreditation. The kinds of activities he will need help with are reading documents, making phone calls, writing letters/emails, understanding requirements, communicating to Club members, and putting together a plan of action to get us from where we are now to actually achieving accreditation. There is no timeline at this point, however Mark's goal is to achieve accreditation by the end of the 2009 Baseball season. If anyone would like to input or volunteer to assist, then please either contact Mark for info on <first name>@bracknellbaseballclub.co.uk. |

Congratulations to all Award winners who are detailed above in the team table. Controversially, despite being the overwhelming Judges' favourite, there was no award for the outstanding entertainment act of the evening, pictured right. |

END OF SEASON TRAVEL TEAM WRAP-UP The Tornadoes have qualified for the Pony Final Four in Cartmel. By beating London in a single game on 3rd September they clinched the Southern Conference Championship and, as #1 seeds from the South, they will play the #2 seeds from the North, Halton, in the second semi-final at the Final Four at 3pm on Saturday. A 3rd/4th place game takes place at 10am on Sunday but we hope to be playing against either London or Cartmel in the Final at 1pm. The Broncos faced elation and despair on a final Saturday. They won both games against Tonbridge which meant they tied for second place with Brentwood. With no tie-break rules in place the BBF ordered that a toss of a coin would decide the 2nd team to attend the Final Four and unfortunately Bracknell lost the toss. Despite the disappointment they would like to wish Brentwood "Good Luck" in the Final Four. Blazers II finished 6-6 after a well competed game with divisional champions Croydon III. The Blazers finished with a fifth NL win, their first over opposition other than Croydon, when they beat 2nd placed Richmond. Their hopes of bettering Croydon's win-loss record were dashed by Croydon's last day surprise win over NL South champions London, their first (and last, as it happens) loss of the season. |
